Confirmation is when a person ‘confirms’ the promises godparents and parents made on their behalf at Baptism. It’s when you take the calling to the Christian life on in your own, mature, right, and receive fresh graces of the Holy Spirit for the next chapter of your life. A Bishop lays hands on you and anoints you with holy oil.
Confirmation can happen at any age, generally from Y6 upwards (you can’t be too old!) and it’s a very moving and important sacramental moment which is also traditionally the gateway to receiving Holy Communion.
If you haven’t been baptised this can happen at the same service.
To get ready for confirmation, a member of clergy will meet with you on your own or in a group to talk about your faith and give you whatever teaching or counsel you need for this step in your life of faith.
